XREADs and ZREADs¶
Often it can be useful to check the balance of a till during the course of the day. You may do this:
- To check the till when you think you have made a mistake (e.g. if a customer queries their change).
- Between shifts, to 'cash-up' the till.
- After closing at the end of the day.
As with a standard till there are different reports you can pull to check the till holdings. X and Z Reads are on a per terminal basis so will hold details specific to the terminal it is being run on.
An X-Read gives you a list of totals since the last Z-Read was printed. The totals are displayed on the screen only and are NOT reset.
An X-Read is an ideal way to do a spot check on a till.
A Z-Read gives you a list of totals since the last Z-Read was printed. The totals are printed on the receipt printer and then RESET.
It is good practice to run a Z-Read and cash up the till at the end of each shift (or at the very least check the XREAD and that the till is holding the correct amount of cash, cheques, etc. between shift changes).
Running Z-Reads between shifts and reconciling the takings for each member of staff is a good idea as it helps you to spot mistakes and discourages staff theft.
X read¶
To view an X-Read, tap the XREAD button on the manager's keypad:

End of shift cashing up¶
To print a Z-Read and reset till balance, tap the ZREAD button on the manager's keypad. Then tap Yes:
This will load the cashing up window where you can enter the takings. Subject to configuration:
- This could be set to physically count all the cash in the drawer (including the float)
- Not show the "Computed" value
Enter the values for the various payment types:
Then click save, which will then ask if it is OK to save these figures:
This will save the details in the EOD takings automatically, if multiple ZREADs are run through the day these will add to the EOD Actual figures for an overall daily value.
If you have float handling enabled you will then be prompted to enter the float.
