Generating your own barcodes

Not all products come with their own barcodes (clothing in particular). Although you are free to make-up and use your own numbering convention, ProEPOS can generate barcodes for you automatically.

To get ProEPOS to automatically create a unique barcode (in the "Add new stock line" window) simply click the AUTO button. This will automatically create a six digit, incremental, unique number and place it in the field for you:

If you would still prefer to make up your own barcodes rather than use numbers generated by the system (e.g. to use your own numbering convention) then there are a few points that we recommend you keep in mind:

• Try to keep the barcodes not too small, but not too long. We recommend using six digits.
• Avoid 8 and 13 digit lengths if you intend to print the barcodes yourself (these lengths are reserved for EAN codes).
• Stick to numbers only and try and avoid letters and symbols (these can cause problems with different scanners, etc).
