Advertising¶
If you have a second LCD screen (computer monitor) acting as your customer display it is possible to set up an image file to promote products that are on offer, or upcoming events.
You will need to be able to create your own advertising images to make use of this facility. The image file created will require a maximum size that will fit on your second LCD screen. The following table has a guide of the maximum size for each screen resolution:
Screen size | Resolution | Image size pixelx (widthxheight) |
---|---|---|
8"/10"/12" | 800x600 | 300x423 |
15" | 1024x768 | 450x634 |
17" | 1280x1024 | 600x800 |
21"+ | 1920x1080 | TBC |
The image file needs to be saved in any of the following formats:
- JPEG
- GIF
- Animated GIF - this is a good option if you want to have multiple images displayed in a loop
- PNG
To access this facility select 'Advertising' from the POS terminal sub-menu (Main Menu -> Properties -> POS Terminal -> Advertising):
Click the BROWSE button. A standard windows file dialog opens allowing you to locate the image file:
Browse to the location of the image file. If you have more than one till that needs the advert then the image will need to be put into a shared folder (Shared Documents is probably best) and then use the 'My Network Places' shortcut to locate the file. With the required file selected, click the OPEN button and the image will be loaded into the preview panel, which automatically resizes to the size of the image. If the file is an animated GIF the preview will correctly show the rotating images. Finally click the SAVE button. You may need to restart ProEPOS for the new settings to take effect.
Creating an advertising image¶
If you do not have a suitable image editing package on your computer already then there are a number of free packages available; one example is 'paint.net', which is an updated version of the paint package that is included with MS Windows (with a number of additional features). Paint.net is available from www.getpaint.net.
Within this package you can create an image of the correct size by setting up the canvas size as detailed in the table above. Add and format the text of the offer and possibly import another image, showing the actual product, to add to the visual effect of the advert.
When you are happy with the image you have created save it as a JPEG '.jpg' file.
If you have other adverts to create and would like to create an animated "slideshow", produce all of the images and then follow the instructions below to create an animate GIF file to use in ProEPOS.

On loading the website it presents you with the set up form.

- Select the size (either 'Big' (450px wide) or 'Normal' (300px wide)).
